Winger faces race to be fit for visit of the champions this weekend.
Key Tottenham Hotspur midfield player Gareth Bale looks like losing his battle to feature against Premier League title-holders Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Sunday, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The Wales international suffered what on initial looks appeared to be a season-ending ankle injury in the first leg of the North London club’s Europa League quarter-final clash with Basle on April 4.
However, Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas gave the club’s fans hope that the 23-year-old would be back in action sooner rather than later when the Portuguese said the knock was not as bad as it first looked.
The wide man has so far missed the club’s past two fixtures against Everton in the top flight and the return encounter with Basle in Europe, both of which ended in 2-2 draws.
However, it now seems likely that Bale will return to Premier League action against Wigan Athletic at the DW stadium on April 27.
