Wide man has just been named Player of the Year in England.
Former Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Gareth Bale is now the best player in the world and could be worth as much as £60 million, reports the Daily Mail.
The Wales international has just been crowned both the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year after what has been an outstanding campaign for the high-flying north London club.
However, were Andre Villas-Boas’s side not to finish this season in the top four of the Premier League, and with it entry into the Uefa Champions League, then there appears every likelihood that the 23-year-old will depart White Hart Lane this summer.
And remarkably Madrid sporting director Zidane feels that on current form, Bale is now the best player in Europe, superior to both Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and his own team’s Cristiano Ronaldo, which means that there will be quite some battle to land the winger if and when he does decide to quit Spurs.
“After the season he has just had – and still being so young of course Gareth Bale is going to be one of the most expensive players in the world if he decides to move,” Zidane is quoted as saying in the Mail.
“Tottenham could command £40m, £50m, maybe even £60m for him. It is a lot of money – but there are maybe three or four teams in the world that can pay that sort of transfer fee – and it wont put them off.
“They would be getting the best player in Europe this season – and he is at an age where he can still play at the top for another ten years. What I like about him is that he has this electric pace – but also a big footballing brain to go with it. That is very rare.
“A player like Bale can be the difference between a big club winning the league or Champions League.”
