Spurs set to swoop as reluctant Gunners hesitate.
Tottenham are planning a surprise summer swoop for long-term Arsenal target David Villa, reports the Daily Star.
The Barcelona striker has been linked with the Gunners since January but sources in Spain claim Spurs have already bid £10m for the 31-year-old and could get their man for around £12.6m this summer.
Villa is under contract until June 2014 but knows he does not feature in Barca boss Tito Vilanova’s long-term plans.
Arsenal will continue to monitor the former Valencia forward, who is Spain’s record goalscorer, but it is believed boss Arsene Wenger has reservations about Villa’s price tag and age.
Atletico Madrid, who are likely to lose key striker Radamel Falcao this summer, are also in the running and have already had a £9m bid rejected by the Catalans.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to add more firepower to a squad that has relied heavily on double PFA and Football Writers’ Player of the Year Gareth Bale.
Emmanuel Adebayor scored just his fourth league goal of the season against Chelsea on Wednesday, while Jermain Defoe has scored once since Boxing Day.
Despite struggling for games at Barca, Villa, meanwhile, has still bagged 10 goals so far this term.
