Tottenham have opened talks with Fiorentina over the transfer of star midfielder Josip Ilicic, reports suggest.
Ilicic has starred for Fiorentina since joining the club from Palermo in 2013 and has previously been linked with a move to Premier League giants Arsenal.
However, Metro [via La Nazione] reports that the Gunners’ North London rivals Tottenham are in talks with Fiorentina and a £5.5m bid could be put on the table.
Ilicic is able to play anywhere across the midfield and can is equally adept in an advanced role and would be a major coup for Mauricio Pochettino should he lure the Slovenian international to White Hart Lane.
Pochettino is understood to be looking to bolster his midfield stocks and has already strengthened defensively with the additions of Kevin Wimmer, Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier.
The signing of Ilicic would be a huge statement of intent from Tottenham, with the club looking to push for a Champions League place next season.
