Spurs eyeing Argentine pass-master.
Tottenham will turn their attentions to Valencia midfielder Ever Benega once they have tied up a deal for Erik Lamela, reports Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
Spurs are hopeful of tying up a deal for Roma’s Argentine winger Lamela this week but are also keen on his compatriot Benega as they prepare for life without Gareth Bale.
Franco Baldini, Tottenham’s director of football, has reportedly sounded out Banega’s agent, Marcelo Simonian, about a possible move to White Hart Lane.
The attacking midfielder has a €30m release clause and it is understood Valencia would demand the full amount from Spurs, just as they did in negotiations for Roberto Soldado, who joined the North London outfit for £26m earlier in the summer.
Spurs have already added Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue, all midfielders, to their squad this summer but it is understood boss Andre Villas-Boas is keen to sign a creative player who can operate behind Soldado, and Banega linked well with the Spaniard at the Mestalla.
Villas-Boas had looked set to land Brazilian playmaker Willian but Chelsea hi-jacked the deal at the eleventh hour.
