Spurs set to pip Liverpool for Ajax’s prodigal midfielder…
Tottenham are set to bid £10m for Ajax’s Danish Christian Eriksen, reports Danish publication BT.
The north-London club are desperate to sign an attacking midfielder, and have been heavily linked with Roma’s Erik Lamela and Chelsea’s Juan Mata after missing out on Brazilian Willian.
Eriksen would provide a much cheaper, but arguably no less talented alternative.
Spurs will use some of their imminent Gareth Bale transfer money to fund the deal. The 24-year-old Welsh winger is all set to move to Real Madrid for a world record £86m.
Eriksen has been heavily linked around Europe all summer, with Liverpool taking a particularly strong interest – but with one week before the transfer window shuts, the 21-year-old remains an Ajax player.
If Spurs managed to complete a deal, the freekick specialist would provide some creativity and imagination in the final third at White Harte Lane. His technical ability and intricate passing would help Spurs greatly, who currently rely on dynamic wingers to provide chances for the strikers.
Tottenham will face competition from AC Milan for Eriksen’s signature. The attacker bagged 13 goals last term, and has already scored two in four games this season.
