The north London side are desperate to bring in a centre-back.
Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a new centre-back has seen the Premier League club turn their attention to Barcelona youngster Marc Bartra, according to goal.com.
Having released William Gallas, sold Steven Caulker to Cardiff City and Jan Vertonghen being sidelined for some time with injury, Spurs are desperate for defensive recruitment.
The north London club tried to sign Vlad Chiriches of Steaua Bucharest, before the owner of the Romanian side blocked the transfer, as well as looking at the possibility of bringing in FC Porto’s Rolando.
However, with neither deal coming off manager Andre Villas-Boas and new director of football Franco Baldini have been forced to turn their attention elsewhere.
This has lead the pair to the Nou Camp and talented, but underused, defender Bartra – who has already had loan offers from La Liga duo Valencia and Villarreal.
West Ham United have also shown interest in the past, although nothing ever materialised but the Spain under-21 international is still interested in a switch to England.
Barca are on the lookout for new central defenders this summer and have showed a lack of faith in Bartra by not having the confidence to rely on the 22-year-old on a regular basis.
Therefore Spurs are aiming to capitalise on this uncertainty, although the Catalans are unlikely to let the Spaniard leave until a new signing is made.
Last season Bartra played just 16 matches in all competitions and is likely to find more first team football at White Hart Lane.
