Trippier has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Southampton, however Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be most keen on the 24-year-old.
According to The Mirror, Spurs have made an attempt to begin negotiations with the player who is believed to have a £3.5m release clause.
Spurs are understood to be keen to push the deal through to ward off competition from Liverpool, who have already completed a deal to bring striker Danny Ings from Turf Moor to Anfield.
The Mirror suggests that Pochettino is desperate to lure Trippier to White Hart Lane to provide put pressure on injury-prone first-choice defender Kyle Walker.
Trippier earned plenty of plaudits for his performances with Burnley this season despite the fact the club was relegated back to the Championship.
The former Manchester City youth graduate is certainly Premier League quality and is unlikely to play in England’s second tier next season.
