Spurs set to continue their spending spree…
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has promised fans that the club will recruit more players this summer, following the £7m signing of Nacer Chadli, reports The Sun.
Spurs are close to sealing a deal for the Belgian 23-year-old winger, who plays for FC Twente in Holland. He will join £17m signing Paulinho at White Harte Lane, but Villas-Boas is insisting that Spurs’ summer business is far from finished.
“We will continue to do our market and we have not stopped yet, for sure,” said the former Porto and Chelsea boss.
Villas-Boas was full of praise for new signing Chadli, too, and will be hoping his arrival can ease the pressure off Gareth Bale, who Tottenham heavily relied on last season for goals.
“Chadli’s a player we’ve been following for quite some time and we managed to strike a deal in the last few days,” added the Portuguese.
“He’s a player who is extremely versatile and can play in several positions up front. He played with tremendous success on the left for Twente as a winger and as an attacker for Belgium.
“We look forward to having him on board with us.”
Chadli racked up 25 league goals during his three year stint in Holland, and will provide Spurs with another attacking dimension. The Belgian is more of a wide attacker than he is a central striker however, and Tottenham could break their transfer record with an £18m move for Valencia hitman Roberto Soldado who would play in a more advanced central position, with Bale and Chadli playing off him.
Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermaine Defoe failed to impress last year, and signing a striker to spearhead the side has become a priority for Villas-Boas.
Here’s how Tottenham could line up next year if they snap up Soldado, after the signings of Paulinho and Chadli:
