AVB is being kept in the dark… or so he’ll have us believe.
With speculation surrounding Gareth Bale and Willian rife, Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is trying to remain calm about the situation.
Bale appears to be on the move to Real Madrid for a world record transfer any time soon, whilst the Brazilian was thought to be heading to White Hart Lane until Chelsea entered the fray.
Spurs have been resigned to their best player leaving for some time, but the Willian deal looked as good as done and this interference from the Blues will come as a nasty shock.
However, speaking after Tottenham’s 5-0 demolition of Dinamo Tbilisi in their Europa League qualifier, Villas-Boas insists the 35-year-old is clueless about the Anzhi Makhachkala man.
“We were just involved in a game so unfortunately I can’t give you further information,” the Portuguese boss told ITV.
“I confirmed our interest in the player. Everything is possible, but I’m not aware of the circumstances because of our involvement in the [Dinamo] game. I don’t want it to be a distraction over what we achieved here tonight.”
Likewise whilst AVB fends off questions about Willian well, the coach was equally as aloof about Bale’s future and when, or if, the Welshman would be leaving.
“On Gareth I am not able to comment on anything that has been my tone since the start of the season and I will not come out of it.”
The manager’s silence is believed to be a sign that the 24-year-old is off which, as mentioned, many Spurs fans have become used to.
Not replacing the talisman would be a disastrous outcome however.
