Spurs boss over the moon with pre-season demolition…
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas was delighted with his side’s performance during their 6-0 pre-season friendly victory over South China.
“It was very good,” the 35-year-old Portuguese manager told Sky Sports. “We continue our hard work after the Sunderland defeat and didn’t stop for a rest.
“We really trained hard in double sessions and today we did really well. Not only with the football that we played but physically we did well on a difficult pitch so there were a lot of positives.”
Spurs won 6-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Jermaine Defoe, an own goal, and a strike each from Clint Dempsey and Andros Townsend.
Defoe has reminded his boss that on his day, he is as good a finisher as any in England. The goal-glut is well timed from Defoe considering Tottenham are actively chasing an extra forward, and have specifically targeted Roberto Soldado for the position.
“He’s a deadly striker in the box. And today, not only with his hat-trick but also with his assisting, he showed how unselfish he is also in front of goal,” Villas-Boas said after Defoe’s hat-trick.
“It’s good for the team – co-operation, teamwork and ethics – and a great result.”
Tottenham endured a miserable outing against Sunderland last Wednesday, losing 3-1, and seeing star centre-back Jan Vertonghen leaving the field on a stretcher. This latest performance will cheer fans up, as the squad now head back to Europe for their final pre-season fixtures.
Spurs start their Premier League campaign away to Crystal Palace, and will be hoping for a bright start on their quest to finish in the top four.
