Gylfi Sigurdsson won’t give up a starting spot at White Harte lane without a fight…
Tottenham’s Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson will fight the multiple new White Harte Lane recruits for a starting spot this season, reports Sky Sports.
“We’ve brought in a lot of players and we have a very big squad,” Sigurdsson told Fotbolti.net.
“Many good players have arrived and things are looking good. We have a strong group of lads so hopefully we can go far in every competition,” continued the former Swansea star.
Sigurdsson enjoyed a relatively productive first season with Tottenham, scoring three goals in 35 Premier league appearances.
Many of these came from the bench however, and the Icelandic attacker struggled to hold down a starting spot. With multiple new recruits, the playmaker may find it even harder to earn game time this term.
With Andre Villas-Boas signing Christian Eriksen, Paulinho and Erik Lamela – who can all play in the attacking midfield positions, Sigurdsson knows he has his work cut out to earn a starting spot.
The 23-year-old though, says he knew he would face competition for places before arriving, and is prepared to fight off the new recruits for starting berth in one of the wide attacking berths.
“I know that most of the teams in the top five of the Premier League buy a lot of players, and I knew there would be plenty of competition,” he said.
