Spurs believe that a cash plus player offer will edge them ahead of the Reds in the race to sign the Porto forward, who starred for Colombia at last summer’s World Cup.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino targeting a quality goalscorer in the January transfer window, and believes Martinez could be the man to make the difference at White Hart Lane.
According to the source, Liverpool are preparing to make an opening offer of £30m as they, like Tottenham, look to seek their current goalscoring issues, but it appears as if the North London club are winning the race for Martinez’s signature.
Porto have previously insisted they won’t sell in January, but Martinez, who has scored 74 goals in 109 games for the club, has since stalled on signing a new contract – and they could look to cash in.
