Mkhitaryan could have choice between White Hart Lane and Anfield.
Tottenham are set to hijack Liverpool’s £20m move for Shakhtar Donetsk star Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to the Daily Mail.
It is understood Liverpool remain in pole position to sign the goal-scoring midfielder but Spurs have now entered the race for the Armenian international, with the 24-year-old’s advisors even thought to have held talks with Spurs officials over a move to White Hart Lane.
The news will come as a blow to Liverpool fans and will sicken Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers, who watched Spurs land two of his top targets, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey, last summer.
Spurs are close to sealing a £17m move for Brazil international Paulinho but once the midfielder’s move is complete after the Confederations Cup, the north London outfit will turn their attentions to Mkhitaryan.
The playmaker scored a record 25 league goals for the Ukrainian outfit last season and is fast becoming one of the most coveted players in Europe, with Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund also keen on the player.
The Germans saw a £19.5m bid rejected last week, with Shakhtar thought to be holding out for close to £25m.
Spurs could offer Mkhitaryan European football via the Europa League and the chance to play in an exciting front three along with Gareth Bale and top target David Villa.
