RM: Aaron Lennon
The winger made a goal-scoring return to the team against Stoke and should keep his place, despite a lively cameo from record signing Erik Lamela. Lennon often gives Patrice Evra a tough time and will be hoping to do the same on Wednesday.
LM: Christian Eriksen
The Dane gave the ball way far too frequently against Stoke but has the quality to drift inside from the flank and hurt Manchester United. Gylfi Sigurdsson was rested against the Potters but Eriksen should keep his place on New Year’s Day.
CM: Mousa Dembele
The Belgian has been liberated by Sherwood’s 4-4-2 formation and produced a brilliant goal-scoring display against Stoke. Dembele has struggled with a prolonged hip injury but should be fine to face the Red Devils.
CM: Paulinho
The £17m summer signing finally looked worth his price tag against Stoke, producing no fewer than three fabulous flicks in the first half. Paulinho limped off injured after an awful challenge by Charlie Adam and Spurs will be hoping he is fit enough to face United.
