Spurs fail in approach for Toffees defensive starlet.Tottenham Hotspur have seen a bid for Everton youngster John Stones rejected by the Merseyside club, according to the Sun.
The 20-year-old has recently become regarded as one of the most promising young players in England, with some strong displays that saw him break into Roberto Martinez’s starting lineup for the second half of the 2013/14 season.
This has previously seen the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea show an interest in signing the centre-back, who was also named as a standby player for England in Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup squad.
New Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino appears keen on signing a new defensive player, having also been linked with a raid on his old club Southampton for Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren in recent times.
Stones now seems to be another top target for the north London side, but Everton have rejected an opening offer from the club and will no doubt be keen to keep hold of a player who could be a key performer for the club for many years to come.
