Harry Redknapp is plotting a £16million bid for Brazil strike sensation Leandro Damiao.
The North London club last night secured Manchester City striker Adebayor, 27, on a season-long loan – but league rules mean he will be ineligible for the game between the two sides on Sunday.
Boss Redknapp has now set his sights on another striker in the shape of Interncional’s highly-rated youngster Damiao.
But the Brazlian outfit have already turned down a £12m bid from Spurs, who are expected to return with an improved offer for the 22-year-old.
Redknapp is hoping the signings of Adebayor and Damiao will convince unsettled midfielder Luka Modric to stay at White Hart Lane.
Adebayor went on loan to Real Madrid last season after falling out with City chief Roberto Mancini.
Spurs will pick up £75,000 of his weekly £180,000 wages.
Spurs have also completed a season-long loan deal for Spain Under-21 midfielder Iago Falque, 21, from Juventus.
