Spurs set to continue their monster summer spending spree…
Tottenham look set to bid £15m for Roma’s Bosnian playmaker Miralem Pjanic, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 23-year-old already has 40 caps for his country, and is very highly rated in Italy. Tottenham’s new director of football Franco Baldini worked with Pjanic at Roma last season, and has given Andre Villas-Boas a rave review of his talents. He actually started last season on the bench, but eventually earned a starting spot, scoring four and assisting eight.
Spurs have already invested heavily in strengthening their squad, but are showing no signs of slowing down. Paulinho signed for £17m from Brazil, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue have also arrived in midfield, and £26m Spanish hotshot Roberto Soldado signed from Valencia, breaking the club’s transfer record.
Pjanic would be another impressive addition at White Harte Lane, as the attacker is finally starting to fulfil his prodigious talent. He recently scored two and assisted another for Roma in a friendly win against Toronto, and manager Rudi Garcia will be desperate to keep hold of him.
Spurs may of course be signing this cacophony of midfield talent as an insurance if Welsh wizard Gareth Bale joins Real Madrid for a world-record transfer fee. Madrid’s president Florentino Perez has intimated that Bale’s price is inflated, but it is thought that Los Blancos will eventually give in to Spurs’ demands and pay the £100m fee.
