The north London club are keen on Hernandez.
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur as the club continue to spend big this summer, according to the Mirror.
As Spurs look to tie up a £30m deal for AS Roma starlet Erik Lamela, their total spending this summer will be £89m and the club’s transfer record will have been broken three times.
However, with Gareth Bale on the verge of making the switch to Real Madrid in an £86m deal, Tottenham’s spending will actually almost plateau out as the Wales international will fund the arrival of five new players.
Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue have all been recruited at White Hart Lane and now manager Andre Villas-Boas has an eye on Hernandez.
The 25-year-old – known as Chicarito – has impressed at Old Trafford since a £6m switch from Deportivo Guadalajara in 2010, but is currently behind Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in David Moyes’ pecking order for a place up-front.
Hernandez had been touted as the new Ole Gunnar Solskjaer due to the Mexican’s ability to make an impact after coming on as a substitute and a record of 50 goals in 117 matches is a good return.
However, the forward is seeking more first team football and although the Mexico international’s temperament has seen the attacker never cause any problems in Manchester, a sizable bid would tempt the Red Devils into selling.
Spurs want to pay £7m to £8m, but United will not budge unless the north London club pay closer to £15m.
