Barcelona want Hummels and Vertonghen.
Premier League sides Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur could both be hit quite badly this summer as Spanish powerhouse Barcelona is plotting moves for defenders Mats Hummels and Jan Vertonghen, according to reports in the Daily Express.
The Catalan giants have to add more defensive reinforcements this summer following the retirement of Carles Puyol, and their new manager Luis Enrique, who is also being tipped to put an end to the club’s tiki-taka style of football is keen to recruit accomplished central defenders to support Gerard Pique.
United target Hummels from Borussia Dortmund is their priority defensive signing while they also want to move for unsettled Belgian Jan Vertonghen, who had a torrid time at Tottenham last season.
The news could potentially be heart-breaking for both the English sides as they must now look elsewhere for solid defenders, particularly given that their defensive frailties were badly exposed many a time last season.
