The north London club haven’t given up on Pato.
Despite failing to impress at AC Milan after a promising start, Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato, reports the Metro.
The Brazilian club have confirmed that the 24-year-old could be allowed to leave in January and with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor likely to depart White Hart Lane in the near future, this could be the perfect move for Spurs.
“We know there is interest in Pato and we don’t rule out selling him in the winter transfer market,” Corinthians director Roberto de Andrade was quoted by the Metro.
The transfer of Pato has become all the more likely after the forward fell out with the Brazil international’s current coaching staff.
It’s thought that if Tottenham do want the attacker then the north London side will have to find around £18m.
If this were to happen it would take the club’s spending in the 2013/14 season to close to £130m, with the likes of Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela arriving in the summer.
For Pato, settling in England would be made easier by the presence of national team-mates Sandro and Paulinho already playing for Spurs.
There are in fact several Brazilians now playing in the Premier League, with four internationals from the country at Chelsea and Anderson and the Da Silva twins at Manchester United.
Pato spent six years at the San Siro and scored 63 goals, before heading back to South America in the January after the arrival of Mario Balotelli and falling behind Stephan El Shaarawy in the pecking order.
