Cuca concedes Atletico will not be able to keep coveted Brazil international.
Tottenham target Bernard will leave Atletico Mineiro in the near future, according to the head-coach of the Brazilian club.
The 20-year-old playmaker, part of Brazil’s Confederations Cup winning squad, has been linked with a move to Tottenham, while Premier League rivals Chelsea and Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be tracking the youngster.
Spurs are said to have sent scouts to watch Bernard in action in his homeland, but the north London outfit are reportedly closing in on deals to sign the midfielder’s Brazil teammate Paulinho and Croatian Alen Halilovic, which could signal the end of their interest in the Atletico starlet.
But Cuca, the boss of the Brasileirao club, says the Atletico will struggle to hold on to Bernard and is already focussed on developing other stars of the future.
“Atletico Mineiro won’t be able to keep Bernard, but this is natural,” Cuca is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“We have to take advantage of having him in Libertadores and if he leaves, as it seems it will happen, it’s up to us to develop another player like him.”
