The Italian says Coentrao will not leaving the Bernabeu.
Despite having already spent over £100m in the transfer market and bought in seven players, Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in signing Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao.
However, new Madrid coach Cralo Ancelotti has stated that the move will not be happening and that Coentrao will not be leaving the Spanish capital.
“Fabio is staying,” the Italian was quoted by ITV.
“I understood that he wanted to go, but really it was not the same desire for everyone.
“Now he’s decided to stay and everybody, the club, players and coaching staff, are happy with this decision.”
Spurs were looking into the option of bringing in Coentrao on-loan as the north London club look to strengthen their defence having mainly improved in the attacking third this summer.
The Portugal international has admitted to feeling unwanted at the Santiago Bernabeu since making the £26m switch from Benfica two years ago.
Coentrao has made 63 appearances in all competitions since that transfer and was part of the side that won the La Liga title in 2012.
Despite having formed a strong bond on the pitch with national team mate and Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, the 25-year-old was considered behind Marcelo for a place at left-back.
Yet since Ancelotti has taken the reigns from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, the coach has clearly decided that the defender is part of the 54-year-old’s plans and will not be departing to White Hart Lane.
Tottenham may still try and use the sale of Gareth Bale to Los Blancos as a way to engineer a move for Coentrao however.
