The Bosnian has been on Spurs’ radar for some time.
AS Roma winger Miralem Pjanic has been in fantastic form for the Serie A leaders and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the winger for some time.
However, with the Bosnia international in such great form Roma are keen to tie their 23-year-old star down to a new deal, especially as the forward is in the player’s final 18 months of the current deal.
Spurs had been keeping an eye on Pjanic for some time and when director of football Franco Baldini made the switch from the Stadio Olimpico to White Hart Lane, many thought the attacker would do the same.
Yet the north London club instead opted for Erik Lamela, with the Argentine signing for Tottenham in a £30m transfer this summer.
Whilst Lamela has been steady if unspectacular, Pjanic has excelled and has scored one goal and provided two assists in six matches in the Italian top tier – with Roma winning every game so far.
The Bosnian has insisted that the player’s commitment is to his current club, despite some of Europe’s elite sniffing about.
“I still have two years and it’s time to talk about it. For the moment I am focused on one thing – to give everything for the club,” Pjanic was quoted by talkSPORT.
Baldini helped Spurs acquire £107m of new talent this summer, including Lamela, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Christian Eriksen.
With an abundance of talent at manager Andre Villas-Boas’ disposal in attacking midfield, it’s unlikely Pjanic would get much game time for the club in any case.
