Andre Villas-Boas now wants coveted Ajax pair Toby Alderwiereld and Christian Eriksen…
Tottenham have made an ambitious attempt to sign Ajax pair Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderwiereld, and have submitted a £15m bid, reports the Sunday Mirror.
It appears that Spurs are looking to spend any money they will receive from the potential Gareth Bale to Real Madrid deal early on. This deal would bring summer spending close to £70m, having already acquired Paulinho, Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli and Etiene Capoue.
Christian Eriksen, a 21-year-old Danish playmaker has been touted round Europe for much of the last two seasons, and has been heavily linked with Liverpool especially.
The talented youngster is technically gifted, and has the ability to open a defence with a slick first time pass.
Eriksen is ready to leave this summer, but will only move to the right club.
“I am prepared to wait. I will only go where my heart wants to go,” said the mercurial Dane, who has already won 36 caps.
“I am patiently waiting what will happen in the next few weeks. But I have said before I only want to go to a club where I feel I can play at my best and which suits my style.”
Toby Alderwiereld is a 24-year-old Belgian centre-half, and has again been linked with Liverpool, but also Norwich this summer.
Last summer, Spurs signed another Belgian centre-half, Jan Vertonghen from Ajax, and will be delighted if Alderwiereld turns out half as good as he did.
Alderwiereld can also play at right-back, so could be used as cover for Kyle Walker, but also fill the gap in the squad left by the departing Steven Caulker, who joined Cardiff last week.
