Spurs step up the chase for Marica.
Former Schalke 04 striker Ciprian Marica has been targeted by Arsenal and West Ham United, but it seems Tottenham Hotspur are now leading the chase for the Romanian, reports the Mirror.
The 27-year-old had the forward’s contract at the Bundesliga outfit terminated a year early at the end of last season and despite having an average goal-scoring record at club level, is wanted by Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas.
This is because the north London club are currently light up-front with Roberto Soldado and Jermain Defoe the only two been used by the 35-year-old.
Villas-Boas is keen to offload both Harry Kane and controversial attacker Emmanuel Adebayor – who despite being paid £100,000-a-week had been made to train with the development squad this term by AVB.
The Portuguese boss is not a fan of Adebayor and tried to shift the Togo international to Besiktas this summer, but the Turkish side could not afford the wages.
If the coach cannot move the African on then Daniel Levy may pressurise Villas-Boas to bring the 29-year-old back into the first team though.
However, it seems the new look squad for Tottenham – which has had a £107m makeover this summer with the arrival of players such as Paulinho, Soldado and Erik Lamela – is going to continue to change with the arrival of Marica.
The Romanian international, who has 22 goals in 63 caps, is set to sign a three-year contract with wages of around £60,000-a-week.
