The Germans are interested in signing unsettled midfielder Holtby.
Borussia Dortmund are set to make a shock offer for Tottenham Hotspur ace Lewis Holtby and sign the German before the January transfer window closes, according to the Daily Mail.
Holtby has become unsettled at White Hart Lane this season and Dortmund are readying a £5m bid for the attacking midfielder as they look to revive their campaign.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently third in the Bundesliga and a whopping 14 points off league leaders Bayern Munich.
Both PSV Eindhoven and Holtby’s former side Schalke 04 have shown interest in the 23-year-old in recent times, but a switch to last year’s Champions League finalists would be too good to turn down.
The Germany international has been with Spurs for 12 months since a £1.5m move from Schalke in January 2013 and has since made 38 appearances for the club in all competitions.
However, since Tim Sherwood succeeded Andre Villas-Boas as manager Holtby has struggled for game time and has started just once since December 18.
Sherwood has adopted a traditional 4-4-2 formation in north London and the 44-year-old’s preferred partnership in central midfield is currently Moussa Dembele and Christian Eriksen.
This leaves little room for the German, who wants game time in order for national team head coach Joachim Loew to notice the midfielder ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
Holtby currently has three caps for Germany, but with a large amount of talent available to Loew in the middle of the park getting a place in the 23-man squad for the tournament in Brazil is going to be tough.
