Lamela, who arrived at White Hart Lane from Roma this summer in a £30m deal, has struggled to adapt to English football and has been linked with a return to the Serie A on loan.
Lazio and Inter Milan are both thought to be keen on the 21-year-old, with The Daily Star claiming Lamela’s agent has travelled to Rome for talks with the Nerazzurri.
The winger’s father, Jose, claims his son wants to return to Italy but has said Spurs are unwilling to allow the player to leave.
“Erik is not happy and wants to go back to Italy,” Jose Lamela is quoted as saying by ESPN.
“He has been linked with Lazio, but I don’t know anything about this. Could he re-join Roma? I don’t know.
“Tottenham does not want him to leave in January.”
However, Jose Lamela’s comments are contradicted by his younger son, Brian, who claims brother Erik is happy at Spurs and will not leave in the winter transfer window.
Brian, a prolific tweeter, ruled out a move to Lazio and is adamant Lamela will be remaining in North London.

After scoring 15 Serie A goals for Roma last season, Lamela followed Franco Baldini from the Stadio Olimpico to White Hart Lane in a much-heralded deal, even though The Daily Mail believe former boss Andre Villas-Boas did not want to sign the Argentina international.
Lamela struggled for game-time under Villas-Boas, making just three league starts before the Portuguese’s sacking last month.
New head-coach Tim Sherwood has handed Lamela just 93 minutes of action so far, with Aaron Lennon and Christian Eriksen preferred in wide areas.
The further confuse the situation, The Daily Telegraph claims Spurs have no intention of loaning out the player this month, a report contradicted by The Daily Mail.
