The Spanish giants now want to sign Paulinho from White Hart Lane.
Just six months after completing a world record £85.3m deal for Gareth Bale, Real Madrid want to raid Tottenham Hotspur again and this time for Paulinho, reports the Telegraph.
The Brazil international only signed for Spurs in the summer and since then the box-to-box midfielder has been impressive and seems to be coping well with life in the Premier League.
Although Paulinho is settled, an offer from Madrid would be hard to resist for any player and Carlo Ancelotti wants to tie up a deal as soon as possible.
This is because the 25-year-old has admirers all over Europe, with the likes of AS Roma and Inter Milan having also shown interest.
This would be the third time Los Blancos have raided the Tottenham squad in as many seasons, with Luka Modric also making the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2012.
The way the Spanish giants conducted themselves in both negotiations for Bale and Modric did not endear the club to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and the north Londoners are unlikely to make things easy.
Despite the side struggling somewhat in the wake of the sacking of manager Andre Villas-Boas and heavy defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool, Paulinho has been a real asset.
The South American was among a host of players brought to White Hart Lane in the summer as part of the funds from the Bale deal and has played 22 matches in all competitions since.
