Tottenham want to sign Chelsea target Diego Costa in the summer for Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, reports the Mirror.
Spurs signed Roberto Soldado for a mammoth £26m fee last summer, but the Spanish striker has massively failed to live up to both his lofty price tag and fans’ expectations. In 21 Premier League appearances he’s scored five goals, and only one of those came from open play.
If Soldado ends his English football nightmare in the summer, Spurs could target the excellent Diego Costa as his big name replacement.
Costa has bagged 21 in La Liga, firing his side to a position where they are genuinely competing for the title with Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Chelsea have also been linked to the Brazilian born hitman, so a potential transfer to Spurs would likely depend on how serious Chelsea’s interest is in the 25-year-old.
Costa would likely cost a very large sum, and would only be interested in moving to White Hart Lane should Tottenham manage to qualify for the Champions League. They are currently three points off fourth placed Liverpool, and will be desperate to pick up a victory against Norwich this Sunday afternoon.
