Spurs’ best defender could leave if Sherwood’s boys fail to make the top four…
Tottenham could face the prospect of another star player leaving this year if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this term, if comments by Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen are anything to go by, reports ESPN.
Spurs are six points behind fourth placed Liverpool, after losing away to Norwich at the weekend.
After missing out on the top four last season, star player Gareth Bale left to join Real Madrid, just as Luka Modric did the previous year, and fans will be getting nervous already that another one of their best players has begun to look elsewhere.
On being asked whether Spurs finishing in the top four would effect his future at White Hart Lane, the 26-year-old centre-back gave a coy response.
“Those are always difficult questions,” Vertonghen told the London Evening Standard.
“What I want is to be playing in the Champions League with Tottenham, so I hope we get in this year.
“Do I have a decision to make if we don’t? I can’t say anything about that. Let’s see after the end of the season, after the World Cup.”
