Tottenham Hotspur play arch rivals Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday. Here is a combined team based on form and fitness of players from Spurs and the Gunners.
Wojciech Szczesny (Arsenal)
Wojciech Szczesny has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the top four. He has not made as many as Hugo Lloris, but has conceded far fewer goals, suggesting that his defence is superior than that of Arsenal’s rivals Spurs, who have a neutral goal difference.
The Poland international used to be considered erratic, but has knuckled down this season and found high levels of concentration and consistency – not least because the impressive Lukasz Fabianski is ready to take his place.
Lloris remains a fine custodian, but a lack of confidence has prompted the occasional unwise decision to rush out his area, while his distribution accuracy of 50% is far inferior to Szczesny’s 69% despite making a similar amount of long and short passes.
