Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)
Per Mertesacker, or the BFG (Big F***ing German) as he is affectionately known by Arsenal fans, has overcome a difficult start to his Gunners career to become a rock at the back.
The 29 year-old is probably one of the slowest centre backs playing at the highest level, but his anticipation, positioning, organisation, impressively clean tackling and height makes him hugely valuable to the north London side.
