Five head-to-head clashes to watch when Spurs entertain Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Aaron Lennon vs Jon Flanagan
Flying winger Lennon is a favourite of Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas and the Yorkshireman is likely to get the nod on the right wing on Saturday, despite decent showings from Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela midweek.
Lennon, 26, has hit form in recent weeks and ran the experienced Patrice Evra ragged against Manchester United, before being unlucky not to register an assist in the 2-1 win at Sunderland.
With Luis Enrique out, 20-year-old Flanagan will again get the nod at left-back and the youngster must be at his best to keep Lennon quiet. Support from Lucas, Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson from midfield will also be vital but Flanagan is good enough to hold his own, as he proved with a great showing in the Merseyside derby last month.
History shows that when Lennon is afforded space and freedom, Spurs typically score goals – something they have struggled to do in the league of late. Flanagan is not the most glamorous player on Liverpool’s team-sheet but he may hold the key to keeping the hosts’ attacking threat to a minimum.
