South Coast club Southampton are trying to rope in Sunderland boss Gus Poyet as their new manager after learning that their current manager Mauricio Pochettino is close to moving to Tottenham this summer, reports the Daily Express.
Poyet has been mighty impressive with his management of the Black Cats since taking over from Paolo di Canio in the middle of last season, and his effort to keep the club afloat in the Premier League has gotten him plenty of accolades.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham player has also proved to be a tactically astute manager as he beat the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea with a team that had far lesser quality of players.
One will have to wait and see whether the Uruguayan would leave Sunderland just months after managing to beat the drop with the side. Southampton have also reportedly lined up former Celtic boss Neil Lennon and ex-Dinamo Moscow boss Dan Petrescu in case they may not be able to rope in Poyet at such short notice.
