The Dane is keen to play down comparisons after similar impressive debuts.
After a superb performance against Norwich City on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen has been flattered by comparisons with Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil.
Both men made their debuts for the north London rivals at the weekend and duly impressed with an assist apiece in dominant wins over Norwich and Sunderland.
However, Eriksen is keen to move away from being compared with Ozil – a player who provided goals on 81 occasions during three years at Real Madrid.
“I think Ozil has achieved a little bit more than me! I am a few years younger and still have to learn a lot but it is nice to be compared,” the Denmark international was quoted by the Mirror.
“I am 21, but I hope I will make as few mistakes as possible.
“From what I have heard, it is not good to be compared with Arsenal players! But really, it is pretty cool to be compared with such big players.”
After helping Spurs to a strong 2-0 victory over the Canaries thanks to two goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson, the £11.5m the side paid for Eriksen is beginning to look like a steal.
The 21-year-old was a supreme talent whilst with previous side Ajax, gaining vital experience in the Champions League and despite many claiming last term wasn’t so good for the attacking midfielder, that clearly hasn’t affected the Dane since a move to White Hart Lane.
Tottenham have won three of their opening four Premier League matches and currently sit in third position.
