Recent reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino could still be busy before the end of this summer’s transfer window, with new signings in midfield seemingly a priority for the Argentine.
Having moved to White Hart Lane from Southampton earlier in the summer, Pochettino has been relatively quiet in the transfer market so far, mostly bringing in signings in defence, with youngsters Ben Davies and Eric Dier arriving, while Michel Vorm joins as a new backup goalkeeper from Swansea City.
While keeping squad continuity and working with what you’ve got is by no means a bad thing, Spurs fans may still be excited to know that there could be more big-name deals to come before the transfer window slams shut, with this new-look midfield pairing looking particularly exciting if the club can land both their targets, creating a far stronger-looking XI overall for the 2014/15 season.
Goalkeeper and defence:
Despite the signing of Michel Vorm, one would expect that the outstanding Hugo Lloris will keep his place as Tottenham’s number one this season, with the Frenchman establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
At left-back, new signing Ben Davies is a great prospect and should become first choice over the inconsistent Danny Rose. On the opposite side, Kyle Walker should continue as first choice right-back, despite bizarre rumoured interest from Barcelona.
In the centre, there is hope of another new signing as Villarreal’s highly-rated defender Mateo Musacchio continues to be strongly linked with a move to Spurs. The talented 23-year-old would then likely line up alongside Jan Vertonghen in a strong-looking central defensive partnership.
