Jan Vertonghen could deputise at left-back with Chriches making his debut…
Tottenham’s predicted line-up v Cardiff
Defence:
AVB needs to reshuffle his defence as first-choice left-back Danny Rose is expected to miss out with an ankle injury he suffered during the 3-0 win over Tromso in the Europa League midweek.
Jan Vertonghen could move across to fullback, meaning Vlad Chiriches could make his debut alongside Michael Dawson after finally receiving a work permit.
England fullback Kyle Walker will play at right-back, replacing Kyle Naughton, who started Spurs’ last match.
Midfield:
Brazilian battler Paulinho will likely partner Moussa Dembele in the middle of the park, who should be fit despite coming off injured in midweek. Sandro is expected to start from the bench, while new signing Etienne Capoue is still out injured.
Attack:
Roberto Soldado will replace Jermain Defoe up top, even though the England man scored twice on Thursday evening in the Europa League. Christian Eriksen will make his second Premier League start in the no.10 role, after performing brilliantly on debut last week in the 2-0 win over Norwich.
Record signing Erik Lamela, like Eriksen, will make his second start for Spurs, after impressing midweek. The £26m Argentine will interchange positions with Eriksen throughout the afternoon, as will Gylfi Sigurdsson. The attacking midfielder was not guaranteed a starting spot at the beginning of the season following Spurs big summer business, but he scored both goals last weekend and will be one of the first names on AVB’s team sheet this afternoon.
