Spurs already have a relationship with Real Madrid following monster deals for Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, which could smooth negotiations.
Danny Rose is currently injured, and Jan Vertonghen is fed up of deputising at left-back, meaning a deal for an established left-back is probably January’s priority.
The Portuguese could well be the last piece in Spurs’ already impressive defensive jigsaw.
