Broncos K Matt Praeter has been suspended by the league for four games for violating the substance abuse policy, forcing the Broncos to pursue other options as a temporary replacement.
The Denver Broncos have traded a late-round draft pick to the New York Giants in exchange for K Brandon McManus.
The trade comes less than 48 hours after the Broncos learned that former Pro Bowl K Matt Praeter would be suspended for four games after testing positive for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
McManus was reportedly on the verge of being released by the team after apparently losing the kicking competition with incumbent K Josh Brown. He demonstrated decent kicking in the preseason, knocking in kicks of 46 and 47 yards. In practice however, a New York Times article indicated that McManus had kicked a 75-yard FG in team practices; Praeter, only last season set the NFL record for longest regular season FG with a 64-yarder. 10 of McManus’ 11 kickoffs have been touchbacks.
Matt Praeter was named to the Pro Bowl in 2013 after leading the league in FG%.
