The New England Patriots have traded backup quarterback Ryan Mallett to the Houston Texans for a sixth-round pick, according to reports. New England Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett has been the backup to Tom Brady for the last three seasons, but the Patriots chose to select Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round of this year’s draft.
This made Mallett more expendable, and Garoppolo outplayed him in the preseason. The Patriots kept all three quarterbacks on their final 53-man roster. However, reports are stating that Mallett has been traded to the Houston Texans, who are in desperate need of a quarterback.
Mallett will look to use Bill Belichick’s tutelage to his advantage as he battles Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job.
Here is a tweet from NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport breaking the news of the trade and ESPN NFL Nation writer Tania Ganguli revealing the details.
