49ers Guard Alex Boone is holding out of camp and the team is apparently trying to work out a trade. The team may have found their best partner.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been named as a potential partner in a trade for 49ers G Alex Boone, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rappaport.
Boone, the 49ers’ starting LG for the past three seasons, is currently holding out of 49ers training camp for a new contract, but the 49ers have not been inclined to give one to him.
The Buccaneers, on the other hand, recently lost G Carl Nicks due to retirement and recently benched replacement starter Jamon Meredith, leaving a massive void to fill at the spot. The offensive line played terribly in the preseason opener against the meager Jacksonville Jaguars, which could force the team to make a move one way or another.
The downside for the Bucs would be having to give up a draft pick – possibly a high one – and then having to give Boone a new contract in line with a top starting Guard.
Boone has played in 32 consecutive starts for the 49ers and 49 games since joining the team in 2010. The 49ers have been to three straight NFC Championship games and a Superbowl appearance, while maintaining one of the best running games in the league.
