Chelsea will apparently go head-to-head with Manchester United for the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Miranda.
The 30-year-old is out of contract at the Vicente Calderon next summer and Atletico may have to sell him in the upcoming transfer window to avoid losing him on a free.

United are desperate for centre-back reinforcements and have been touted with an interest in the Brazilian, whose partnership with Diego Godin over the last couple of seasons at Madrid has earned him a stellar reputation.
However, The Telegraph reports that Chelsea are ready to rival their Premier League counterparts for Miranda after conceding that they are unlikely to lure Raphael Varane away from Real Madrid following the appointment of Rafael Benitez.
Jose Mourinho is believed to see Miranda as a perfect, cheaper alternative and will ignore Atletico’s offer of Toby Alderweireld, who impressed on loan at Southampton last season, to focus on landing their preferred target.
Miranda has reportedly told friends that he is open to leaving his Spanish employers, but may struggle to force his way into Chelsea’s back four as former teammate Filipe Luis has, with first-team opportunities perhaps more probable at Old Trafford.
