ST. Shane Long (Hull City to Southampton)
Long is a bit of a journeyman striker who has played for a wide range of clubs and had decent success at most of them. At West Bromwich Albion, Long scored 19 goals in 81 appearances, which isn’t a great record.
During his short stay at Hull, he only scored four goals, which is why it seems very strange that Southampton were willing to pay £12 million for the striker. That is only £4 million less than what Liverpool paid for Mario Balotelli, a player that is in a different class to Long.
Spending £12 million on the Ireland international is extortionate and proof that some clubs are prepared to pay massive amounts just to get bodies into their squads.
