Australia ODI captain George Bailey was suspended for his side’s slow over-rate in its hard-fought win over India at the MCG on Sunday.
International Cricket Council (ICC) referee Andy Pycroft ruled that Australia were one over short of their target at the end of India’s innings and have suspended Bailey from Australia’s next Tri-Series clash against England on Friday.
It was Bailey’s second slow over-rate offence in the past year after he was fined after the first ODI against South Africa in Perth on November 14.
With Mitch Marsh sidelined with a hamstring injury, selectors are expected to add a new batsman to the squad.
Stand-in Test captain Steve Smith is an odds-on chance to replace Bailey as skipper for Friday’s clash in Tasmania.
