Arsenal summer signing Petr Cech shocked quite a few people on Saturday by choosing 33 as his new squad number.
The former Chelsea goalkeeper claimed that his age – 33 – and number of Premier League appearances – 333 – led him to the strange decision.
However, it has since been suggested on Twitter that Cech may have gone for 33 as a mark of respect for Nicklas Bendtner, who was Arsenal’s ‘number 33’ during his first season with the Gunners – the 2005-06 campaign.
Check out the best of the Twitter reaction to Cech new number below.
Arsenal’s other past 33s include Benik Afobe, Nacer Barazite, Matthew Connolly, Adam Birchall, Graham Stack, Alex Bailey, Jermaine Brown, Tommy Black, Greg Lincoln, Michael Black and Gavin McGowan.

Cech takes 33 as his Arsenal squad number, presumably to honour club legend Bendtner, who wore it in 2005-06… http://t.co/G7LMUVFMsD #AFC
