Andrew Strauss made the comment whilst he thought Sky coverage was on an advertising break.
English cricket has been hit by a new controversy today, with former England captain Andrew Strauss calling Kevin Pietersen a ‘c**t’ live on air when he thought Sky’s coverage of the bicentenary match at Lords between the MCC and the Rest of the World was on an advertising break.
Whilst the coverage in the UK had left the studio, however, some overseas viewers were not taken to an advertising break, leading to Strauss’ comment about the player who was sacked from England duty to similarly explicit descriptions of his captain.
Twitter has unsurprisingly been awash with views on Strauss’ misdemeanor, with Pietersen’s friend Piers Morgan particularly scathing about the former Middlesex and England batsman:
Grovelling apology to KP on air from Andrew Zzzzzzztrauss just now. But the snooty halo’s gone forever now, sunshine.

If KP called Strauss a ‘c**t’ on air, cricket media would destroy him. But they’re all ‘feeling sorry’ for ‘poor Straussy’. #Hypocrites

Former footballer Mark Bright also mocked Strauss, having a sly dig at his supposedly superior education:
Ex #eng capt Andrew Strauss has taken Co commentary to a different level, I thought cricketers had a better vocabulary than footballers!!!

The generally feeling amongst commentators seemed to be that Strauss would be fortunate to keep his job on Sky Sports:
If @KP24 gets canned for cursing Strauss in private text messages, what should happen to Strauss for slagging off KP on a global broadcast?

Some fans were, however, slightly more complementary towards Strauss’ position:
Is it too early to vote for Andrew Strauss for Sports Personality of the year 2014?

Always liked Andrew Strauss #tellithowitis
