South Africa had managed 281-5 in a rain affected 43 overs thanks to an 82 from Faf Du Plessis and an unbeaten 65 from AB de Villiers. However, this was not enough as New Zealand chased down the Duckworth/Lewis adjusted 297 with four wickets and a ball to spare.
Grant Elliot top scored with 84* and was helped along by fifties from Brendan McCullum and Corey Anderson. It was Elliott’s massive six in the last over of the match that secured the winning runs, bringing to an end a nail biting tie with just a ball to spare.

South Africa DID NOT CHOKE! They got beaten by a better team today…AB led the team wonderfully well! But, well done NZ! See you in Sydney!

What a great game of cricket. SA did not lose that game. NZ won it. Well played NZ. And to the Proteas you can be proud of your campaign.

If u too ask how tiny NZ population produce such sporting talent, see Haryana. Less than 2% of India bags more than half its medals. — Shekhar Gupta (@ShekharGupta) March 24, 2015

A reminder that New Zealand, already rugby World Champion, has a population of 4.5m & has now the chance to also be cricket World Champion!
