An internet hoax took place at the expense of long-suffering Arsenal fans. It was “reported” that a 16-year-old named Rex Secco was signed by the Gunners for £34m.
If the name is looked at closely, it can be seen that this is clearly a hoax, as Rex Secco is an anagram for “soccerex.”
This bogus story is thought to possibly be intended to make fun of Arsenal, who declined to spend during the transfer window despite reportedly having a £200m budget.
The Gunners had been linked to strikers such as Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani.
However, Arsenal only came away with former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Despite their need for a striker, Gunners fans are likely relieved that they did not actually sign a 16-year-old for the staggering fee £34m.
Here are a just some of the reactions from football fans on Twitter after realising that Arsenal did not in fact sign yet another wonderkid.
Hahaha fake signing for Arsenal named Rex Secco was trending.
