Both Gibbs and Wilshere are likely to miss the game in Germany.
After suffering a blip mid-week with defeat to Chelsea in the League Cup, Arsenal were back to their best on Saturday in the Premier League when defeating Liverpool 2-0.
The Gunners are midway through a tricky set of fixtures, with the next tie being an away trip to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
It’s the return fixture of the battle the two teams underwent at the Emirates Stadium, with a late Robert Lewandowski strike securing all three points for Dortmund.
Therefore manager Arsene Wenger knows this game at the Westfalenstadion will not be easy and things could be made worse by the fitness doubts of Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere.
“Jack has an inflamed ankle,” Wenger was quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Will he be available for Wednesday? I do not know. We will have to wait until Monday to see.
“Gibbs has a calf problem. I don’t know exactly how bad it is.”
It would be a big blow for Wenger, as the two young Englishmen have played a huge part in the club’s early form in the league and in Europe.
Their Champions League group is very open, after victories over Marseille and Napoli in the previous fixtures leaves the Premier League leaders on six points – the same as Dortmund and the Italians.
If Arsenal are to maintain these good performances then the strength of their squad will be tested and injuries to first team players is an unwanted burden.
